HELENE MAJERA a short biography
Born in France. Lives and works in Paris
Internationally known as a fashion illustrator and advertising graphic artist, her work in this field was awarded a number of distinguished prizes: 1984 First Prize of French Advertising Posters, 1983 Honorary Prize of Advertising Posters by Japan Railways, Tokyo, 1978 The ADC First Prize of Advertising Posters (Art Director Club of Tokyo), and 1977 First Prize of French Advertising Posters.
1986 Stops illustration work to pursue personal research as a painter.
1987 A first period, expressionist and colourful, has been exhibited in art galleries and International art fairs, with several catalogues prefaced by Jean-Luc Chalumeau art critic, Jean-Daniel Baltassat and Chochana Boukhobza, both writers.
In 1997 : a personal exhibition « La peau de la peinture » of her black monochromes, with the support of the of French Ministry of Culture. Art critics wrote praising reviews in « Liberation » and in the « Le journal des expositions ». Thesis wroten by Katy Mettling,about two contemporary painters : Pierre Soulages and Hélène M.
2000 Marina Zakarian, curator of the group exhibition « The Tao of Painting » invited Hélène M. to participate at the Mac Kinney Contemporary Museum of Dallas. In 2003 the novelist D. Sigaud included as a character in her novel « De chape et de plomb » published by Gallimard the painter. 2002-2004 As the artist continues to explore monochrome and temporality, her most recent work presents itself as the artist’s personal diary of world events sourced solely from the Net. The body of work is composed of graphic sketches (460 pages), a video (20’32) and a series of 30 paintings in grey which simply become the manual transcription of “hacked” photos. In 2003-2004 number of these paintings have been shown at the Contemporary Art Centre « Le 19 » at Montbéliard (France) for the group exhibition « Déchirures de l'Histoire »
2005-2006 Her latest work, « Blank », a « virtual pictorial object based on a single oil painting (20’), totally created by computer. Its projection on screen ensures its representation as a painting...
